Panglao dads “approve” water treatment plant

Boracay Resort Blog Feeds
by Rey Anthony Chiu
Tagbilaran City ” SETTING aside their political biases, Panglao legislators “approved in principle” the proposal of a private investor to set up a water treatment facility mulled to avert a Boracay-like disaster in the island’s white-sandy beaches.
President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo identified the island as key destination in Central Visayas super region as regards tourism. She however aired concern over the impacts of tourism on the environment.
Local legislators led by Vice Mayor Pedro Fuertes all agreed that the planned water treatment facility can help the residents and the local leaders reduce the demand for water as well as in the efforts to clean-up the beaches.
After the presentation and a building tension, lawyer and SB member Benjie Arcamo admitted that the project is already approved in principle but with minor points to be discussed. Many who attended the session see the move as crucial in creating solutions to Panglao’s perennial water problem and imminent contamination by sewerage.
At the project presentation, March 14, Mactan Rock chief executive officer and president Engr. Antonio Tompar said his facility that would cause tremendous reduction in water demands.
Wastewater can now be treated for re-use instead of being wasted to the sea, he said..
According to another consultant Vic Vosotros, the environmental and the socio economic benefits of the treatment facility especially with the impact of Panglao resorts competing in the top international tourist destinations would be prime considerations.
The project entails a 300 cubic meter facility that would siphon the resort wastewater stored in a collection station and them pumped into the treatment facility. The treated water would again be pumped out to the resorts for their garden, laundry and toilet use, thereby cutting the local demand for water, explains another Ed Walag of the University of San Carlos Water Resource Center, during the presentation at the Panglao SB Session Hall.
About 50% of the treated water would now be pumped out to the consumers for laundry, garden and toilet use. Instead of being wasted into the sea and cause water contamination, the treated water would now be used to irrigate a demonstration organic farm, Engr. Tompar explained.
By such, Panglao would be piloting in Bohol a communal treatment facility that would raise a notch responsible environmental stewardship to comply with the Clean Water Act and other relevant laws, local environment authorities comment.
But, to be set up in Panglao, and with elections looming, the apprehensions escalated with the people thinking that impending highly polarized politics may snag the project.
But in a rare show of statesmanship, local leaders have shown indications of setting aside partisan politics for public service and environmental concern.
Fr. Mar Alingasa of the civil society group Cebu United Sustainable Water told the council that the project needs an endorsement for it to get its Environmental Compliance Certificate.
As this developed, Engr Tompar said even with the company proposed water treatment facility, he is still not closing the possibility of presenting to Panglao his company’s water desalination plant, again to generate soft water for the tourism areas here.
Putting up the treatment facility would also help us in determining the local demand after some water could now be re-used after treatment, Engr. Tompar said. (PIA)

Traveling to Asia

Boracay Resort Blog Feeds
Immensely popular as a tourist destination, Asia provides a peek into a rich history and an even richer culture. In fact, some of the great wonders of the world can be found within the boundaries of this continent.

Travelers to Asia will probably have the Great Wall of China as their first stop. Extending to about 2,414 kilometers or 1,500 miles with a height of about 25 feet, the wall has been said to be visible even in outer space. Erected by the Qin dynasty’s first emperor Shihuangdi to defend the city from the nomadic people, the wall is made out of earth and stone.

Another worthy travel spot in Asia, particularly in China is the Terra-cotta Warriors and Soldiers Museum in Xi’an China, which is considered to be one of the world’s greatest archaeological find. Another tourist destination that should be in the list of any traveler to Asia is the Forbidden City, now known as the Palace Museum in Beijing. The enclosed location holds the former palaces of Chinese emperors. Tiananmen Square, which is also located in Beijing, set adjacent to the Forbidden City. A witness to a series of student-led demonstrations and rallies in 1989 calling for the removal of Deng Xiaoping, the square is now a memorial of those whose lives were sacrificed. Asian travelers will probably want to also go to Dunhang, where ancient Buddhist frescoes in caves can be found.

One of the wonders of the ancient world, the Angkor is a major archaeological site located in the northwest parts of Cambodia. A historical travel spot in Asia, the ruins have two Hindi temple complexes, the Angkor Wat and the Angkor Thom, which is less popular having been built later. And though the site has been damaged much by warfare, a traveler in Asia can still feel the ancient spirit of the place living on.

Taj Mahal is another ancient site that continues to lure travelers in Asia into its midst. Located in Agra, India, the temple was made by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan as a mausoleum for his favorite wife Mumtaz Mahal (Jewel of the Palace) who died in childbirth after bearing him 14 children.

Bangkok, Thailand is another travel spot in Asia. One of its most popular tourist destination is the Wat Pho or the Temple of the Reclining Buddha. Other destinations that would surely fascinate any traveler in Asia are the Wat Phra Kaeo (Temple of the Emerald Buddha), which is known as a example of 19th-century architecture; Buddhist temples; the Sanam Luang, where royal ceremonies such as cremation and the annual Ploughing Ceremony are often held; the Dusit Park, Zoo and the Chitladda Palace where the royal family reside. Bangkok is also home to numerous art houses such as the National Museum, National Theater, National Gallery, Rajadamnoen Stadium (the preeminent venue of Thai kick-boxing), National Library, and National Archives.

The Philippines have also a lot to offer travelers in Asia. Its beaches and resorts can rival the world. Boracay, for instance, is known for its white sandy beaches and crystal clear water. Another island destination that any traveler to Asia should not dare miss is Palawan and Bohol, where the world famous Tarsier and Chocolate Hills can be found. Of course, one must also visit the Ifugao Rice Terraces, which is one of he Ten Wonders of the World as well as the Mines View Park and Strawberry fields in Baguio.

Wedding Prep 102: Venue Choice # 1

Boracay Resort Blog Feeds
Kuya Nelson and Caren were camera-shy. So in this photo, it was just me, Peter, Ate Rose and Laiza. As I was telling you in my previous post, we went to Virgin Beach Resort in Laiya, San Juan, Batangas last weekend with my friends from the office. We all met at GSIS around 7 a.m. and at 10:30 a.m., we reached our destination. It was our first time to go out of town with Caren, Laiza and Kuya Nelson and they were one cool bunch of comfortable and down-to-earth friends I’ve been with. Couple that with wacky Ate Rose, hilarious Peter and sleepy me (Peter & I went straight to packing for the trip right after the Brownman Revival gig). So what we had was one CRAZY-SEXY-COOL group of friends. One of the kubos we hung out at. Our check-in time was at 1:00 p.m. Yes, we were very early. So we stretched for a while, hung out in one of their kubos, tested the crsytal clear water and took lots of scenic pictures. At first, I wasn’t sold out with the place. Coz compared to La Luz Resort at the opposite end of the same stretch of beach, Virgin didn’t have that “Thai resort” feel to it (exactly the same impression Kai had when she also went to the same resort). My dream beach house… simple and cozy. However, as the hours passed during our entire stay, I eventually got to appreciate the place for its very spacious architectural beach design, cozy-looking casitas and cabanas (I soooo loved the one with glass doors that I am planning to have a small beach house constructed, using the same design, in our ancestral land in Surigao or maybe in La Union… I can dream, right?), plus the beach was so wide and the water was so turquoise to think that the sand wasn’t even white like Boracay’s but beige like Puerto Galera’s. There were also some trees lining up the beach for comfy napping under its shade. Reading something kinky… We had lunch at 12 noon and at 1:00 p.m. we checked-in. Some of us took a nap while the rest (meaning, Peter and I) started exploring the beach. Because the sun was still so high up and very hot, I decided to stay under the shade of one of the trees and read my magazines instead. Brrrrr…the water was so cold, my nipples could cut through diamonds… When it wasn’t so hot anymore, Peter and I swam for a while until the others followed suit. We also managed to visit La Luz around 3:00 p.m. and were only able to get back to Virgin a little before 4:00 p.m. It was a long walk and I think we lost 5 pounds while at it. Whew! Going to the dining area was still quite a long walk from our cabana. In the evening, we had dinner and ordered cans of beer and 3 glasses of Harvey Wall Banger. It was a quiet and mellow night. Peter just read everyone’s auras until late that evening. It was sort of freaky for them since Peter’s readings were very accurate. I was just listening the whole time, getting more drunk by the hour. And since there was no dancing nor singing (Virgin was really very quiet. There was even no TV in our cabana.), after a few more drinks, we called it a night. At last, a close-up picture of our three friends, Lai, Caren & Kuya NelsonThe next day, we woke up late for breakfast. Our island hopping trip was scheduled at 7:00 a.m. but we were only getting up just then. Through the kindness of their staff, it was moved to 9:00 a.m. and my golly, we had a wonderful time! The boat sailed us to a coral garden in the middle of the sea and we saw so many fishes of different kinds. On the way to the coral garden… Plus, it helped that the water was really very clear and blue. And, it wasn’t itchy at all! Not even slightly, as compared to Puerto Galera’s Long Beach Coral Garden the last time we went there and saw planktons and a very deadly box jelly fish floating around. This one in Laiya was really super-ultra-virgin in quality. We only snorkeled for an hour then it was time to go back for more swimming and sunbathing vefore finally checking out at 12:30 p.m. (normally, guests check out at 11 a.m. but we asked for a little extension, yey!). As I snorkeled, Peter dove! Overall, it’s one of the most relaxing weekend vacations we’ve had. It was just us, the beach and the sun. No worries, no noise, no tiresome activities. Plus, we didn’t bring our Revo! It was Laiza who drove her Adventure and we were just merely passengers enjoying the ride (Thanks Lai!). How I wish we can go back there again. Maybe we will… when we do another ocular inspection wit Koryn. :-)

Four Rooms, Four Resorts

Boracay Resort Blog Feeds
At last, after twelve years of being in the public eye, a popular ex-politician decided he was up to being “naughty” again.
Last year, around this time, he bought tickets to Boracay (one for him, the other for his trusted driver) to spend Holy Week in the sun (sin?) capital of the country.
Trouble was, when his girlfriends learned about his plan to fly “solo,” they also decided to go to Bora. On their own. To “surprise” him. No, no, they did not know each other.
But the actor (he’s also in showbiz) knew his girls better. They were not insistent about joining him, which was doubtful “behavior.”
He planned. And planned well.
He booked rooms in four different resorts, from Boracay’s Station 1 to Station 3. Three rooms under different names; one room in his name, and this is the one room he never used. In case the women checked, he thought. (True enough, they did.)
Thus, revelers who saw him strolling on the beach with a tall Brazilian model in the morning, would be surprised to see him in a bar with a different girl in the evening, never staying long in one place. He used his rooms well, indeed.
And how did he control “traffic”?
Simple. His driver would call him on his cell every time “danger” lurked. And then he would duck into whatever was the nearest resort with his room reservation.
“It’s just a discreet offense!” he’d laugh every time he’s reminded of last year’s Boracay memories.
